Hello, I’m Emily. I’m a student of City and Regional Planning, at Georgia Institute of Technology. My background is in downtown development and real estate development. I’m starting this blog to explore the connections between rural hinterlands and urban cores. Though I now live in the metropolis of Atlanta, Georgia, I’m originally from a small town in West Virginia. Living here, and going to school for City Planning, I find myself making connections between the two environments, that don't fall squarely into the realm of my chosen field. So I guess I'm using this blog as a way to share these sentiments with other rural transplants and interested parties.

Within planning, I’m very interested in social issues, and the similarities and differences between urban and rural poverty. In my experience, poverty is tied to environmental justice, so I'll be exploring that as well. I’m also interested in how people experience place, and the personal connections people have to their environments.

I consume media voraciously, so expect a bit of a multi-media experience including but not limited to music, videos, music videos, pictures, artwork, murals, photos, and clips of David Simon shows.
